Eternity's refrain

An unbroken sequence of moments leads to my death
She awaits with patience at the end of a winding road
The goal might be obscured at times by valley and crest
But there is no escaping the final tryst as time flows

There are some who travel the high road of pious morality
And then some who struggle on the low road of addiction
But the river of time nonetheless doesnt recognize plurality
And guides every life, low or high, to the ultimate destination

Struggling with the burden of talent, the low road is painful
An assumption of innocence deadens the pain on higher path
But both are still only illusions, as evidenced by heart's trouble
Failing to understand this, conflict blossoms as a repeated act

Surrendering the illusion at the feet of blazing blissful light
A lightness of spirit manifests as a slowly spreading sight
Cutting asunder the cloying embrace of attachment's pain
Death comes to teach us lessons that are eternity's refrain
