Life's expectation is progress and enlightenment is its goal
Many are the byways of life's progress as it makes to shore
Each one of these wanderings have an ultimate aim to reach
And it will seek this target and many lessons to us will teach
But these are not always pleasant experiences that give bliss
Sometimes they are bitter pills meant for us to heal and assist
Our growth in life after life: the common thread is not visible
But it is there, subtle as that holding a pearl necklace integral
When reaching the end of a given measure of life's earthly tenure
It is customary to look back on events that have transpired
Here is a good experience, I wish I could relive that: says the mind
That is a bitter experience, I wish I could change it by life's rewind
But time's march is inexorable and is always in flight like an arrow
It is remorseless and doesnt stop for either a friend or a angry foe
So dont stop to look back on a past moment, it is a disservice to present
Moment after moment, live now, so that time's travails cease to torment
