Divinity, now

Here stands a man, full of splendor and pomp
His walk has a swagger and his face a smile
Nothing can stop his progress forward
As he wins, whether through wile or guile

His plans are made on a majestic scale
And he amasses wealth day and night
Success is an elixir that he drinks anon
As he climbs constantly to new heights

God doesnt figure in his scheme of things
He scorns at those who are spiritual
Indolent layabouts he thinks in disgust
Dismissing their efforts as ineffectual

He loves the possessions in his life
His car, home, work and his love
Everything fits together so perfectly
Like a hand nestling in a silken glove

And then arrives the appointed time
When a loved one departs forever
Leaving a void that cannot be filled
As he struggles painfully to recover

Now he turns his eyes heavenward
And even then curses rather than pray
God looks on with infinite compassion
As she readies a place for his stay
