Fateful task

Eternity beckons from a distance far in time
Its appearance is shrouded in nebulous mist
Ghostly forms appear and disappear in its midst
But its true form plays a game of will-o-wisp

I erect barriers between it and self by bonds
Fragile as they are they offer a sort of shield
To protect me from my destiny that haunts
A state of Grace can be forbidding indeed

Finality needs the strength not to look back
At the long road paved with life's dual experience
A door once closed should not open even a crack
When time has come to give up our preference

Memories serve as aids to strengthen the barrier
And redirecting the mind helps focus thought
It is time to break and free fetters quite inferior
A difficult task indeed, but one fate has brought
