Sudden Fork

I reached a fork in the road beset on my long journey
This shouldnt have been here at this point of epiphany
I thought my journey was near to a close but not so
There was no way I could sneak in with shadow in tow

On the one hand was a shorter path to a peaceful summit
It was bestrewn with flowers and fragrance filled alcoves
Gentle breeze stroked the traveller and provided relief
A long journey could finally end in a state of total release

The other fork was darkness personified and led to hell
It was spattered with blood from ancient foes who fell
A fierce wind whipped the dark foliage to a great frenzy
There was only the frenetic beckoning of fury's insurgency

I cannot come to your presence with this monster within
A release has to be sought by travelling a path of cleansing
The crimson tide shall swell in a roar of thousand lives lost
As I shall assume the role of a shadowy evanescent ghost

A million lifetimes of birth and death shall certainly follow
But then a long journey does start with a single step and slow
If the direction is right then the destination shall be in sight
I trust the Divine Mother to guide me through turbulent night
