Prayer for the Living

Peace was shattered by the disturbed mind's outpouring of violence
Many lives were brought to an abrupt end as a result of its turbulence
People who thought that their time hadnt yet come were rudely wakened
Many a young life that had a promise of future bloom was now quietened

There was a sense of deep shock and resulting gloom that pervaded
No one could understand why this happened and their peace invaded
Who could be so disturbed that he had to resort to violence as an end?
Were there not other means that he could use to closure in its stead?

Parents on hearing the news were anguished and fearful of loss
Were their children amongst those killed or the rumors false?
Friends were saddened by the news of the cold blooded massacre
Were their loved ones amongst the lucky group of survivors?

It is difficult to come to terms with an outrageous act of hatred
But it is at these times that we need to reach towards that sacred
In God's plan there are no mistakes leading to loss and great pain
Everyone is counted and taken care of whether living or slain.
