He is a little fellow full of life and energy with zeal
His home is in a tall tree's burrow shaded by leafy veil
Material possessions he has none, except for a few berries
Nuts are a luxury, but added when possible, to his treasury
He is extremely agile, hopping from branch to branch nimble
What was of awe to a human, he effortlessly makes look simple
His reflexes are beyond belief and he can move in a flick
Any attempt to sneak upon him failed, impossible to trick
I always see him go about his active duty without fail
My journey to work is an excuse for me to see his play
It lightens my heart to see the little fellow hopping
And it reminds me that God always provides without dropping
The little squirrel lives its life without any support
Not for it a job, 9 to 5, nor annual income to report
It worries not about health insurance, nor about 401k
It is my greatest guru, teaching me about life every day
