--- The following is inspired by an event described in
one of Carlos Castaneda's books -----
There was a spiritual guide in lands south of the hemisphere
His external appearance was unimpressive, lacking lustre
But he made up for that with his eyes, that were coal black
Glistening with an inner fire, that spoke of depthless tracks
Being a scientist by profession I was naturally a sceptic
And was quite determined not to fall prey to an ascetic
But after my first meeting with him in a deserted station
I was irresistibly drawn towards a force of concentration
Once I confided in him my fears: that I lacked power and control
I felt like a mere pawn in the fierce grip of a demonic uproar
What if I was doing and seeing wrong? Isnt this the only chance?
A human being is the highest accolade, not to be spent in trance
He sent me to a local witch doctor: a woman of exceptional ability
She made me experience an earthworm's life for a moment of felicity
I experienced awesome power as the lowly creature, in control of self
Sifting through the soil, going as I please, being of great help
I came out of that experience with a great awakening and sanguine
Every life form has its own world that it lives in without anguish
My guide saw my excitement and bid me care : Son, be quite aware
Nature is an educational device; avoid falling into her snare
