Morning conflict

I had been to drop my son off at his school
A service that I perform as per schedule
Prescribed by a law and by a parent's urge
To see their children's wisdom form and emerge

The activity always soothes me, as I drive
With him by my side, peaceful and without strife
I would like to complete that task without ire
As otherwise it would leave me with an inner fire

But that doesnt happen alway as was the case today
His shoe laces were too long and coming in the way
They were tied and untied ad nauseum, but to no avail
Parted they remained, and he was unable to prevail

I remained patient for a while, looking at the clock
Seeing the seconds tick away, while he tied the knot
Finally I snapped and spoke to him in intense anger
Causing him to despair and make his angst stronger

Finally he tied a loose knot and walked off to learn
I watched him go and knew that he wouldnt his face turn
To say a cheery good bye, because he was quite upset
But I know he will forgive, as the day sweeps towards sunset
