Resentment

Resentment arises at times when we lack awareness
It is like a silent wolf that preys in total darkness
An imagined insult, a contrived fault are its causes
Subtle are its manifestations that lead to many losses

A message that was misinterpreted leads to anger
It blocks flow of love and makes friend as stranger
We create our own mental prisons as its outcome
In it we sit as the self piteous forms we have become

A comfortable cloak of martyrdom slips easy on us
There is no dearth of emotions ready for us to fuss
Lifetimes can effortlessly slip by under its control
And life's lessons are re-learnt in classes we enroll

Our resentment prevents the expression of love
And an assumed air of sacrifice can be our reward
It makes life miserable for us and our close family
Why hold onto a cactus and complain of great agony?

Forgiveness and compassion can lead to a quick remedy
Otherwise life shall become a soap opera's lame parody
Filial affection and maternal love shall hopefully transform
A struggling soul into a great force with duties to perform
