Last steps

There was no work to be done as I sat quietly in relative solitude
All around me was the hustle and bustle of daily life with attitude
There were deadlines being fashioned and goals being defined
People acted with a purpose directing their lives in manner refined

There was a danger that I would lapse into a state of total inertia
And in that soporific state would become prisoner to inner dementia
A nihilistic state seemed to beckon in which existence ceases total
And nothing would be left to experience in an absolute silence fatal

There is a danger zone that has to be crossed when moving to sublime
It is a state of spiritual wilderness that can trap the unwary in prime
A period of intoxication and self destruction can quickly follow in state
And the life spins out of control into a free wheeling dive towards waste

This is the time when the aspirant has to summon inner strength
And with a great effort focus attention on the final stages of ascent
The quietness of mind is suddenly achieved with blossoming light
Existence is torn asunder and mind folds in surrender without a fight
