What is the meaning of Yoga? - I asked God's messenger one day
Yoga is the cessation of mind's fluctuations she replied ceasing play
How do you remain such a playful entity? I asked with yearning
It is my natural state: she said. It is not the result of great learning

What is the purpose of life? - I asked her, filled with frustration
Enlightenment: she replied looking at my state with compassion
But what is this enlightenment that you speak of: I asked wearily
It is quite literally the expansion of light: she said very softly

I asked her to show the way that leads to this expansion of light
She said: The path is before you, clear your mind for true sight
How can I clear my mind, pray tell: I entreated her for an answer
Give it an object to hold its attention: she said, making me tenser

What is that object? How can I find it?: I implored her with agony
It can be a divine form, or a drug, or a chanting: was her repartee
I selected a chant from the choices offered and started on my way
On the tortuous path of life I am goal bound by starting to pray
