Life is defined by its many anchors, they provide us reference
When a child our parents and siblings were our preference
And then came the hormonal changes along with adolescence
Our life was then anchored by friends and their exuberance
Then came the need to study and we attended the university
Our anchors then were cyclical semesters with group study
We defined ourselves as students and had the goal of degree
Which when obtained was to serve as proof of our pedigree
Then came a job and our anchors were our employer and peers
Our status was defined by a set of rules and by related fears
Being with a job was an anchor and without one we were desolate
Stress was a defining anchor that accompanied us to our distaste
An emotional relationship was the next anchor, our critical need
We needed physical love and nourishment for our minds to feed
Our lives were divided into work and love, arbitrary distinction
And these anchored our lives and stabilized it to great perfection
But everytime a new anchor was formed it also served as a prison
Our need for a fulcrum was also the source from which fear is risen
And when the time comes to raise the anchor and proceed onwards
We dont want to let go: we are afraid of where the journey will take us
It is better to live a life that is free of the need for any such anchors
Nature teaches us that is the true way to live without any rancor
Be like a summer bloom that holds onto grim rock for a brief while
And after fulfilling God's purpose, fades away silently into winter night
