It was a deep forest, full of dense trees and animals
Silence echoed off its canopies of trees as sentinels
Monkeys chattered and birds shrieked breaking silence
A winding river swung by creating a wonderful ambience
A humble dwelling was set in a clearing on its banks
The forest seemed ready to take it over in a glance
A sage's hermitage it was set in surroundings sylvan
He lived there and taught spirituality to his intern
The practice was rigorous and had yoga and meditation
Material comforts were shunned in favor of liberation
External world was forgotten and focus was on inner
Evolution was quite steady and maya's veil got thinner
The disciple would at times lapse and long for release
His master was stern and censured him for his unease
When do I get englightened? asked the student one day
The work is hard and paths are long, there is no play
Taking the acolyte with him to a majestic water fall
The Master asked him to dive into its cooling shawl
And when in he held him down for a moment with might
When the thrashing became intense he released to light
What did you wish for when down in deep? - asked master
A breath of air no more: replied the sputtering youngster
Said guru: desire liberation with that level of intensity
And in a moment you shall be free of material propensity
