When the blue light manifested in the humble dwellings of Gokulam
A similar star was born in the hay filled mangers of Bethlehem
Both waifs were shadowed by a dictator's unvanquished cruel rage
Life was in turmoil and the kingdoms were struck as in a plague
Angels prophecied to either despot that destruction was imminent
Drunk in their power and arrogance they remained quite ignorant
Taking on creation's challenge they ranted and reviled at Spirit
Not content with mortal power, they sought for infinity a limit
Prince's son was a mischievous entity, content to play and steal
Carpenter's offspring was quieter, introspective with inner zeal
One was resplendent in finery and always was with cohorts and flute
The other was in rough livery, and tended sheep, while in solitude
During formative years they met in secrecy and recognized mutually
The Great Shepherd was in chains severe and sought counsel liberally
Thus prepared he returned to Judaea to spread gentle word and gospel
While the mentor resumed his divine play for destiny's knot to unravel
