Future Memories

Yesterday's thoughts pile up in the mind choking the flow
Sublimity doesnt manifest and heaven's grace comes up slow
Locked onto past hurts the heart provides ample distress
While these attachments are transient as summer's tempests

But we take great delight in holding onto them, with vigor
Shifting the past into the future without present's rigor
Our life is a constant play of our past's futile reminders
And an unfathomable anxiety about the future's harbingers

Our energies are focused on projecting into the past events
Present interactions with friends, whom we deign to torment
Because of our need to be a martyr, and appear to be noble
When in reality it is our petty ego need, one of its foibles

Realize then, infinity is hiding in the pristine present
Simple in its outlook and origin of all that is exuberant
Grasping it in its entirety we can come to realize a truth
That we are completely free, of future's pull and past's fruit
