As the birds wheeled shrieking in the sky
Mountains framed the rising sun quite high
Dotted in the landscape were the palm trees
Fronds lush and green waving in the breeze
His name was Mothi and his task was to milk
The sap from the palms, oozing from a slit
Made by his sharp sickle, and into a mud pitcher
Singing while he worked, he was a simple villager
The sap was used to create, a quite tasty cake
By a widow, who thus had a poor living to make
Mothi's collection and the Widow's magic touch
Combined to make cakes of superior taste such
That when Mothi spread out his wares in the bazaar
There was quite a crowd around him from near and afar
His competitors were envious and groaned in despair
As Mothi sold his wares easily and without any fanfare
But Mothi soon grew greedy and his head started to swell
He soon started thinking that his wares would always sell
Ignoring the widow he started to hold back and cheat
Making the poor woman to wail and her chest to beat
Cursing him she left, packing all her worldly possessions
Mothi, in his arrogance watched her leave without compassion
But with her magic touch gone, his cakes turned quite sour
And Mothi met with ruin and couldnt sell his wares any more
Realizing his plight and the true worth of the poor widow
He ran in search of her, hoping atleast to glimpse her shadow
Alas for poor Mothi, he didnt realize pride goes before a fall
The widow had remarried, and was never to return back at all

This has reference to your exquisite little piece entitled "Pride".In this connection I can do no better than quote Tagore who says and I quote.
I came out alone on the way to the tryst, but who is this that follows me in the silent dark? He raises the dust from the earth with his swagger and he adds his loud voice to every word that I utter. He is my own little self my Lord, he knows no shame, but I am ashamed to come to Thy door in his company" Quoted from memory. So please ignore errors and inaccuracies. The spirit behind the words, however, is correctly captured
