Not mine to own

Sometimes I look at you, and see myself in your eyes
A smaller replica of mine, dancing under the skies
Filled with joy and laughter, with nary a worldly care
You live life in the moment with happiness to share

I pause for a moment with worry and a furrowed brow
What will the future bring and what fate perchance throw?
My desires for your life are plentiful: academic laurels,
Joyful communion, Material wealth, life without quarrels

Everything I want for you, my son; anxiety grips hard
At my heart, when I watch you grow, daily springing forward
Is my path correct? Am I teaching you the correct lessons?
My responsibility is great, unsullied by past and the present

But I realize that you are already perfect, without any lack
Much like a flawless pearl that nestles in the oyster's crack
Your manifestation is from the Divine, and not mine to own
You shall reach destiny's goal, while peace reigns in her throne

Your thoughts are leaving me with plenty of joy and I can see my heart is filled with lot of respect and love for your poems, I really liked the one 'Not Mine to Own' I am all for it, I always think the moon, the ocean, the sun, the nature....the kids....they are not mine to own, i just have to enjoy them and let them be ...

Thank you Hema. I appreciate your outlook on life. Detachment leads to immense bliss.
